MKT capacitors, also known as metallized film capacitors with polyester film as the dielectric, have the following core features:
Dielectric material: Polyethylene terephthalate (PET), also known as polyester film, hence referred to as metallized polyester capacitor.
Structure: The vacuum-evaporated metal film serves as the electrode, with no inductive winding, outer tape wrapping, and epoxy potting at both ends.
Performance: Excellent self-healing properties, temperature resistance up to 125°C, non-polarity, long lifespan, but higher high-frequency loss compared to MKP (polypropylene) capacitors.
The "flattened" version involves rolling the cylindrical core into a flat shape and then axially extending it, making it easier to mount in narrow slots or close to heat dissipation surfaces.
Common Application Scenarios
Audio Crossover and Coupling: Commonly used in audio crossover networks and amplifier coupling circuits, featuring axial flat welding for easy assembly and low signal loss along the sound path.
Industrial Control and Instrumentation: Common circuits such as power filtering, signal coupling, and bypassing, with longer lifespan than aluminum electrolytic capacitors and no fear of reverse polarity.
Home Appliances and Power Supplies: Designed for highly restricted scenarios such as induction cookers, photovoltaic inverters, and flat-panel TV power supplies, the thin MKT is specifically engineered for low insertion height.
